Martin Marietta Materials Makes Contribution to Frisco Project

Martin Marietta Materials made a significant contribution to the Museum’s Phase IA construction project in Frisco in the form of ballast at a greatly reduced cost. The material was provided by their Frisco facility which is located just across the BNSF main line from the Museum’s new site. Ballast is the rock that is applied to track for drainage and stability. This material is worked underneath new track construction and also fills the spaces between cross-ties.

Martin Marietta made 2,600 tons of crushed granite available to the Museum at a greatly reduced cost. Granite is commonly used on mainline railroad tracks and is preferred due to its longevity and appearance. The City of Frisco, through its Public Works Department, generously provided transportation of the material to the site.

The Museum is very grateful to Martin Marietta and the City of Frisco for their generosity and support of track construction at the new facility. It is gratifying to have contributions from Frisco-based industries that have the ability to advance construction through in-kind contributions.
