KCS to the Rescue!

After exhausting several other sources, the Museum requested the assistance of Kansas City Southern Lines for the donation of an additional boxcar. KCS graciously agreed to provide an additional car and it arrived at the Museum a few weeks ago.

The car will be used to load and transport additional large items as part of the Museum's move to its new home in Frisco. Upon arrival, the car will provide for storage of these items until they are used during future phases of construction. The car will become a permanent addition to the Museum's rolling stock collection. Beyond its utility value, it serves as an important reminder of Kansas City Southern's ongoing contribution to the development of commerce in North Texas and its service area.

The Museum's relationship with KCS extends back to the late 1960s when the railroad donated an outside braced wood boxcar constructed in the early 1920s. The car is a rare and unique piece in the collection and is the only example of its kind from the early days of the KCS. The railroad has been a long-time supporter of the Museum with the assistance of its Garland, Texas-based operations.
