Pipe - and Lots of It!
11/10/2015
Nearly half-a-mile of drainage pipe was delivered to the Museum’s new Frisco facility today; enough to accommodate storm water associated with construction of exhibit tracks 6, 7, and 8.
While there is much excitement about the impending construction of exhibit tracks at the Museum, certain utilities are essential before these improvements can take place. Enter, Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) and Longhorn, Inc., who generously provided storm drainage pipe at a greatly reduced price to the Museum.
Installing the corrugated plastic pipe, ranging in diameter from 30” to 8”, is the first step in the next phase of track construction. Adequate drainage is necessary to carry water away from the site, which not only makes for a visitor-friendly experience, but also ensures the longevity of the wooden cross-ties – some 1,500 of them on the 2,400 feet of exhibit tracks. Electrical conduit will also be installed prior to track construction for later distribution of power to the exhibit tracks.
Our thanks to ADS and Longhorn for their support of the Museum’s Phase II construction project. Thanks also to Lunsford Associates of Arlington for their continued contributions toward site engineering and design work.
The Museum of the American Railroad continues to solicit funds and in-kind contributions for other aspects of Phase II construction. The City of Frisco, through its CVB and CDC, have generously provided challenge grants of $100,000 each toward actual track construction.
