TXI Provides Support for Museum Construction Projects

Dallas-based Texas Industries, Inc. (TXI) has generously agreed to donate concrete for several projects at the Museum's Frisco site. The company, a long-time supplier of concrete to North Texas, has pledged to provide an initial amount of concrete on a donation basis, with additional amounts at a reduced cost.

Three TXI trucks delivered concrete today for pouring of Tower 19's base. The base will be faithfully replicated, requiring three separate pours. The first pour was for a series of 22-foot deep piers. Today's pour was for the slab foundation. The final pour will be for the first floor base of Tower 19. This project is possible in part through the generosity of TXI and their ongoing commitment to the Museum's Frisco project.

TXI also has a prior connection to the Museum. In 2000 the company donated a recently-retired diesel locomotive from its Midlothian plant. Prior to plant service, the locomotive was part of the US Army's 762nd Railroad Battalion during WWII. It operated over the Trans-Iranian Railway hauling essential war materials overland during the blockade of water routes to Stalingrad. The US-built ALCO locomotive was repatriated and sold as military surplus to TXI. Recognizing its significance in history, TXI generously donated it to the Museum.
